Haji Bektash Veli Tomb

Haji Bektash Veli (1209-1271) was one of the most important philosophers and thinkers in Anatolia and taught many students at his dervish (a member of the Sufi religious order) lodge in Hacıbektaş in the province of Nevshehir. The complex is now a museum open all year round containing a large collection of historic artefacts as well as Haji Bektash Veli’s tomb.

Every year hundreds of thousands of Sunni muslims, Alevis and Bektashis from Turkey, Albania and the Americas visit the museum and festivals are held every year in August. Since 2012, the Haji Bektash Veli Complex is on the World Heritage Sites Tentative list of the UNESCO.
